Counsel for Kenneth Walker Welcomes US Justice Department’s Civil Rights Probe into Louisville Police Department

Louisville, Kentucky (April 27, 2021) – As counsel to Kenneth Walker, we welcome the announcement by Attorney General Merrick Garland that the United States Department of Justice has launched an official investigation of the Louisville Metro Police Department. A candid and impartial investigation of this kind is long overdue. State and local officials have failed to conduct anything close to the thorough inquiry called for by the midnight raid of Breonna Taylor’s apartment, the killing of Ms. Taylor in that raid, and the trauma inflicted on Mr. Walker, Ms. Taylor’s partner—including imprisoning and unfairly charging Mr. Walker with attempted murder as part of the effort to cover up gross police misconduct. It is equally vital that there be accountability for the unconstitutional policies and practices of the Louisville Metro Police Department that contributed directly to Ms. Taylor’s killing and Mr. Walker’s trauma.
